A 5-minute critique from my boss fixed my weekly reports
Last month my manager pulled me aside after a meeting and said my reports were 'all numbers and no story.' I was pretty annoyed at first, since I spent hours on those spreadsheets. But then I looked at one fresh and realized she was right, I was just dumping data with zero context. Now I add a short summary at the top that says what the numbers actually mean for our team, like 'overtime is up 12% because of the holiday rush.' It takes me an extra 10 minutes but my reports actually get read now, and two other leads asked me how I format them. Has anyone else had a simple comment like that completely flip how you work?
