Six years of SQL, still took me 3 days to merge two tables

I manage a sales database in Cleveland and needed to combine our CRM export with an old spreadsheet list. Figured it would be an hour of work, ended up chasing duplicate keys and mismatched date formats until Thursday night. Anyone else run into simple tasks that balloon into multi-day drains?

CRM systems live to mangle date formats. Duplicate keys are just their favorite hobby. Three days sounds about right, honestly. What finally cracked it for you?
