Vent: My boss told me to stop asking 'how' and start asking 'why' in a team meeting

We were going over a project plan in the conference room last Thursday, and I kept asking for the steps to finish a task. My boss cut me off and said, 'You're stuck in execution mode... the real career growth is in understanding the business reason behind the work.' It made me feel pretty small in front of everyone. Has anyone else had a manager push them to change their thinking like that?

Honestly, "stuck in execution mode" is such a harsh way to put it. Tbh I'd be upset if my boss called me out like that in front of everyone.

Ugh, that's brutal! Public feedback should be kind, not a burn.
