DAE find that pre-drilling every hole made my deck screws snap less?
I tried pre-drilling every single hole on a cedar deck job in Portland last month, mostly because a guy at the lumber counter swore it would help. Honestly I figured it would just slow me down, but out of 600 screws I only snapped two, and the boards pulled down tight with no splitting at the ends. Tbh the extra 20 minutes of drilling was nothing compared to the hour I usually lose backing out broken screws and patching. Ngl it also made the whole frame feel more solid when I checked it by hand. Has anyone else tried this on pressure treated, or does it just eat up your bits too fast?
