Pushed a 2x4 through the table saw free hand for years, then a guy in Dallas showed me a $12 featherboard trick
I always thought featherboards were for guys scared of their own saw, so I free handed every rip cut for like 6 years. Last month a cabinet guy in Dallas watched me fight a 10 ft walnut board and just shook his head, then clamped a scrap of 3/4 ply to my fence with a single C clamp at an angle. That one piece of scrap did what no fancy push block ever did, the board stayed tight to the fence the whole cut and I didn't get a single burn mark on 14 rips. I know it sounds dumb but I've been burning good stock for years because of pride. Anyone else stubborn about jigs they thought were for beginners?
