Rant: I swore by my old knife until a tricky cut proved me wrong
For years, I stuck with a basic utility knife, sure it did the job. Last week, a complex pattern needed exact edges, and my knife kept tearing the fibers. I tried a proper carpet knife with a fresh blade, and the cut was much cleaner. Now I use it for all my tight cuts.

Ever have one of those moments where you realize you've been making things harder for yourself? I was the same with exacto knives... always used a cheap one from a craft store for everything. Then I had to cut some really precise stencils and it was just mangling the edges. Borrowed a friend's good knife and it was like a whole different world. The cut was so clean it changed how I saw the whole task. Now I get why people invest in the right blade for the job.

Your "you don't know what you're missing" comment really nails it for craft tools. Cheap gear often just gets the job done but with way more struggle and worse results. Switching to proper tools turns a chore into something you might even enjoy.

Yeah, heard a similar thing from a friend who does model building. He kept fighting with a craft knife on plastic pieces until someone told him to just get a proper hobby blade. The right tool doesn't just make the job easier, it makes the outcome actually look good. It's one of those "you don't know what you're missing" situations. Your old knife feels fine until you see what a clean cut is supposed to look like.
