Stretcher slipped on a burber stair run in Cleveland and cost me 3 hours
Installing a 12-step staircase last Tuesday in Cleveland, and my knee kicker slipped right off the top tread on the second step. The burber grabbed wrong and I ended up with a 6-inch wrinkle near the nose that would not stretch out. I yanked the whole run back up, re-tacked the top, and worked down one step at a time with a bit more heat on the backing. Lost 3 hours and had to eat the extra time with the client watching. Has anyone found a better way to hold the kicker steady on those short treads?
Burber isn't the culprit here, it's the short treads giving the kicker nothing to bite. Try a knee kicker with a longer nose plate so it grabs more than one step edge.
