Dropped $340 on a Level 2 charger for my garage and now I'm not sure it was the right call
I paid an electrician $340 to run a 240v line and mount a basic Level 2 box in my garage back in March. The charging itself is great, full overnight, no more hunting for public spots near my apartment. But my electric bill went from about $60 a month to $110, and I did not run those numbers before I pulled the trigger. Now I'm wondering if I should have just stuck with the 120v outlet and saved the install cash. Anyone here run the math on home charging vs public and actually come out ahead?
Seems like this happens with a lot of stuff we buy, where the sticker price feels fine but the monthly cost sneaks up later. In my experience the home charger still beats public spots on time and hassle, though the dollar savings really depend on your rates and how much you drive. Take it with a grain of salt, but $50 more a month for never hunting for a plug is a trade a lot of folks would happily make.
