Switched from charging to 100% every night to 80% daily and my range anxiety just quietly died
For about a year I plugged in every single night and let it go to 100% because that's what I thought you were supposed to do, and I was always watching that last bar crawl down like it owed me money. Then a guy at a charger in Sacramento saw me waiting for the top off and asked why I was babying a battery that doesn't need it. He showed me his app, he keeps his car at 80% for daily driving and only pushes to full when he's doing a road trip, and he's at 71k miles with almost no range loss. I tried it for 3 weeks and barely noticed a difference in my commute, I still get home with 30 to 40 miles left on a normal day. The big thing is the car charges faster because the last 20% is the slow part, so I'm not standing around at a station for 40 extra minutes. If you live somewhere with cheap overnight rates, do you top off every night anyway or just ride the 80% rule like me?
