Warning: my 12V died in a Target parking lot in Reno and the jump pack got me home
Last Friday I came out of the Target on S Virginia with a full cart and my car would not start. The dash lit up but nothing turned over, and I sat there for a second realizing I had ignored the slow-crank warning signs for about 3 days. I pulled the little lithium jump pack out of the trunk, clipped it on, and it fired right up on the first try. I drove straight home and put the car on the charger for a few hours, then checked the 12V with a cheap volt meter at 12.1 volts, which is low. Turns out I had been leaving a dash cam plugged into the always-on socket, and that was slowly draining it. Has anyone figured out a clean way to run a dash cam off switched power instead of the constant one?
