Had a cashier at H-Mart show me how to save $12 on kimchi

The lady at the H-Mart in Doraville pointed out I was buying the fancy jarred stuff when the fresh bulk kimchi in the deli section was like half the price and way better. She even let me taste a sample before I bought it - has anyone else found hidden deals behind the prepared foods counter?

12 bucks? That's a huge difference. Did they have that little plastic tub of the spicy cucumber kimchi too? I always grab that stuff but never thought to check the deli for something similar. Was it the same brand or just H-Mart's house-made stuff?

You heard the deli stuff is basically the same recipe but fresher, right? I read on another forum that H-Mart rotates their house-made kimchi from the back every few days, so it's way less fermented than the tubs. The cucumber kimchi is totally different at the deli too, they chop it into bigger chunks with more garlic. I always grab a small container of it when I'm there, it's way better for eating right away than the packaged stuff that's been sitting for weeks.
