Hit $7.50 in grocery clearance last night and I'm still kind of stunned
So I roll through the Kroger on Lamar around 8pm on Tuesdays because that's when they mark down the stuff that's about to expire, and normally I walk out with maybe $15 worth of yogurt and bread for like $6. Last night though I hit $7.50 total and got two rotisserie chickens, a family size bag of salad, a thing of potato wedges, and four of those fancy cupcakes. The chickens alone were normally $8 each so I was doing the math in my head at the register and just kind of staring at the screen. The trick I've figured out is the deli hot case gets hit hard around 7:30 to 8 and whatever doesn't sell they sticker down to half off or more, and if you go on a Tuesday right after a busy weekend they overproduce like crazy. I used to only check the bakery section and ignore the hot bar, which was dumb because that's where the real value is. I'm trying to stretch $50 a week for two people now that my hours got cut at the shop, so this actually mattered a lot. Has anyone else figured out the best night for markdowns at their store, or is it just totally random depending on the manager?
