A kitchen win thanks to my aunt's peeling tip

I had to peel a bunch of potatoes for a big family lunch. Following her tip, it was done in a flash and no sore fingers. What family cooking tips do you rely on?

Oh man, my friend Sarah told me about blanching tomatoes to peel them. She scored an X on the bottom, dropped them in boiling water for like a minute, then into ice water. The skin just slid right off, no knife fighting required. It blew her mind.

Seriously, that blanching trick is a game-changer. It reminds me of how we often miss simple fixes in daily life. Like, I spent years scrubbing pots before someone told me about boiling water with baking soda. We just accept the struggle until a friend shares the secret.

Wow, my buddy Dave had the same thing happen with garlic. He used to hate mincing it because it stuck to his fingers and the knife. Then his mom showed him the shake trick. You separate the cloves, put them in a jar, seal it, and just shake the heck out of it for a minute. The skins come right off, all at once. He said it felt like magic and saved him so much time.
