I finally figured out why my apartment heating was SO uneven this winter

My neighbor said her unit was always toasty while mine felt like a wind tunnel - turns out my landlord never sealed the old window frames, there's a gap of like half an inch on the north side. Has anyone else dealt with crazy drafts in their building with no easy fix?

Wait those gaps are actually pretty common in older buildings, but the fix isn't that hard. Have you tried foam backer rod and caulk from the hardware store?

Yeah the foam backer rod and caulk thing totally works, that's exactly what I did in my old apartment with the same issue. I used the adhesive foam strips first but they fell off after a few months. The backer rod you just shove in the gap with a flathead screwdriver, then put a layer of removable caulk over it so you can peel it off when you move out. My heating bill dropped like 30 bucks that winter.
