That week in July when my AC broke during the heat wave

Last summer my AC went out on a Tuesday. 95 degrees inside my apartment by Wednesday afternoon. Landlord couldn't get a repair guy until Friday. I ended up sleeping on my fire escape with a wet towel. Three fans blowing directly on me did nothing. Ever try to work from home in that kind of heat? How do you guys deal when the AC goes out in Chicago?

Wait, is this really that bad? I mean, people lived without AC for like a hundred years, right? Sleeping on the fire escape sounds kind of fun honestly. You get a nice breeze up there and you can watch the city at night. Plus a wet towel on your neck does actually help a lot more than people think. I always feel like we get too dependent on climate control and forget that our bodies can handle a little discomfort. Maybe it's just me but I kinda miss when summers actually felt like summers.

yo @sarahhart have you ever actually tried sleeping on a fire escape in the middle of a heat wave? i did it one summer in college and woke up covered in mosquito bites plus some drunk guy yelled at me from the street at 3am. the wet towel trick works for like 20 minutes then it's just a wet rag on your neck and you're still sweating through your sheets. i get the nostalgia for old school summers but people also died from heat stroke way more back then, we just don't romanticize that part. is the "discomfort" worth the risk of waking up with heat exhaustion or is it just vibes?
