Tried putting a shop vac on reverse to blow out a stubborn flue instead of brushing it

After 3 hours of fighting a bird nest in a client's chimney in Salem last Tuesday, I hooked up my vac backwards and it cleared the whole thing in 5 minutes, has anyone else tried this approach?

Wait does reversing the airflow actually work better than pushing it through?
