I stopped covering my '69 Camaro for 6 months and the paint took a beating

I used to throw a cover on my '69 Camaro every winter without fail. Last year I got lazy and left it parked outside in Denver without a cover from October to March. The sun and freeze-thaw cycles did a number on the clear coat. I started noticing little cracks around the edges of the hood and roof by January. By March the paint had a dull look that just won't polish out. Now I'm looking at a $2,500 respray just to fix the damage from those 6 uncovered months. Has anyone else seen covers cause more problems like trapped moisture or scratches underneath?

Was your Camaro parked in direct sun or did it have some shade from a tree or building?

Direct sun is a REAL killer for these cars, I learned that the hard way with my old Trans Am. Shade from a building or a big tree cuts the heat down A LOT and keeps the interior from getting baked. Better to park a little further away and walk than come back to a steering wheel that's too hot to touch.
