I finally unplugged my garage freezer and the meter slowed way down, but here is what went wrong
Back in 2019 I was living in Phoenix and my summer power bills were hitting almost $300 a month, which felt crazy even with the AC running nonstop. I blamed the AC for everything until a guy from the utility came out and showed me my old chest freezer in the garage was pulling way more than it should. I waited too long to deal with it and one July night the thing finally died and ruined about $150 of frozen food. So I bought a kill-a-watt meter for $25 and started checking every appliance one by one, and that freezer was the worst one of all. I replaced it with a smaller newer unit and my bills dropped by about $40 a month, which adds up fast over a year. Has anyone else gone through their house like this and been shocked by what was eating the power?
