Just realized that letting coolant levels drop too low is a sure way to ruin a finish, maybe it's just me but I see it happen a lot.

My friend Max had it happen on his Honda Civic last year. The plastic reservoir cracked and left this permanent blue stain down the side of the engine bay.

Oh wow, that's actually crazy to hear. I always figured those overflow tanks were pretty solid, but @noahlee your friend's story totally changed my mind. Guess that plastic gets brittle over time.

Yeah my buddy's old truck had a slow leak for months, and the coolant finally ate through the clear coat on his fender. It left this weird, chalky patch that wouldn't buff out. He was so mad he didn't catch it sooner.
