Why does nobody talk about the 41 pierces that killed my consumables?
Everyone online says you should get 300 to 500 pierces out of a set of consumables, so I tracked mine on a sheet of 16 gauge last week. I hit 41 pierces before the nozzle was blown out and cutting sloppy, and that was on clean, dry steel at 45 amps. Turns out I was piercing right on the cut line with a half second delay, and my pierce height was way too low, so every start was splashing molten metal back into the tip. Bumped the height up to .15 and added a proper lead in, and I'm at 180 pierces on the same tip so far. Anyone else keep a count on theirs, or am I the only nerd with a clipboard out here?
