Please stop copying code out of tutorials line by line without typing it yourself
I help run a free intro Python meetup in Sacramento and I keep seeing the same pattern with new folks. Last Tuesday a guy in my group spent 40 minutes stuck on an indentation bug, and it turned out he had pasted a block from a YouTube tutorial where the code used 4 spaces and his editor was set to tabs. He never caught it because he never actually typed the lines, so he never noticed the spacing change on screen. I know this matters because I did the exact same thing for my first 2 weeks, and the moment I started retyping every example by hand, errors got way easier to find. Copying is fine once you already know how a block works, but doing it while learning just hides the mistakes that teach you. If you retype a line and it breaks, at least you know where to look. What was the first bug you only found after typing code out by hand instead of pasting it?
