Spent a whole Saturday chasing a 'bad' injector that was just a loose battery terminal

Had a 6.7 Powerstroke with a rough idle and a misfire code. I was sure it was a stuck injector, so I spent hours pulling the valve cover and swapping parts around. After all that, my buddy came over, wiggled the positive cable, and the truck smoothed right out. I lost a full day's pay, about $400, for nothing. Anyone ever have a simple fix hide behind a fancy code like that?

I swapped out a client's old thermal paste and the temp drop was wild

Had a gaming PC in yesterday that was hitting 95C under load, which is way too hot. The paste on the CPU was bone dry and cracked, probably hadn't been changed in five years. Cleaned it off and applied a fresh bead of Arctic MX-6. After running a stress test for 30 minutes, the max temp was 72C. That's a 23 degree difference just from a simple re-paste. How often do you guys recommend doing this for client machines?

That week my first real project just fell apart

Honestly, last month I tried to build a simple weather app with Python, following a tutorial I found online. I got it working in about 3 days and felt great. Then I tried to add a feature where it would email me a daily forecast, and my whole code broke for a week straight. I kept getting this 'SMTPAuthenticationError' and had no clue what it meant. I finally figured out I was using my main email password wrong and needed an app-specific one. Has anyone else hit a wall like that on what seemed like a small next step?

My sourdough starter turned into a science experiment gone wrong

I was trying a new rye flour mix for my starter, feeding it twice a day like clockwork. After about 5 days, it stopped bubbling and developed a thin, pink film on top. I thought it was just hooch at first, but it smelled like old gym socks. Turns out I had the jar too close to a warm radiator, which let some weird bacteria take over. I had to toss the whole thing and start fresh with a clean jar from the back of the cupboard. Has anyone else had a starter go bad from getting too warm?

Visited a retro game bar in Chicago and saw something that made me happy

Honestly, I was at this place called The Pixel Pour last Friday. It's a bar with a bunch of old consoles set up on big TVs. Tbh, what really caught my eye wasn't just the games, but the groups of people. I saw three different sets of friends crowded around one screen playing stuff like Mario Kart 64 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time. Ngl, it was a full house, but the loudest noise was just people laughing and yelling at each other. It felt different from everyone being on their phones or playing online. It made me think about how my own game nights have kinda faded. Has anyone else found a spot like that, or a specific old game, that just gets everyone yelling and having a good time together in the same room?

A total stranger at a fabric store in Austin gave me the best design advice I've ever gotten

I was in there last Tuesday, totally stuck on this jacket pattern I was trying to make. I had all this cool patchwork denim but the pieces just looked messy together, like a pile of scraps. This older woman, maybe my mom's age, was looking at buttons next to me and just said, 'Honey, you're thinking in squares. Try cutting one of those on the bias.' I had never even thought of that. I bought a quarter yard of a solid dark blue, cut a strip on the diagonal, and used it to frame the main panel. It pulled the whole thing together instantly, like a picture frame for the chaos. It was such a simple fix but it completely changed how I see putting patterns together now. Has anyone else had a random tip from another shopper totally fix a project?

Finally got my fit-up time down on those 24-inch flanges

Used to take me a full hour to get them tacked up square. Started using a simple laser level my buddy lent me, and now I'm done in under 20 minutes. Anyone have a better method for checking alignment on big pipe?
