Shoutout to plain old HTML over website builders like Wix

Spent 2 months building a site for my woodworking shop on Squarespace. It looked fine but every time I needed something simple like a gallery with a specific layout I hit a paywall or a bug. Last week I rebuilt it with basic HTML and CSS in 3 evenings. Loads faster, no monthly fee, and I actually understand how it works now. Anyone here ditch the builders once you learned the basics?

Dude, I feel that. I spent like six months fiddling with Wix trying to get my band's merch page to look right and it never did. Switched to a basic HTML page with a PayPal button and some inline styles. Took a weekend and it works perfect on phones.

I read one study that said simple sites actually sell more merch than fancy ones.

Did you try any of the free website builders before going pure HTML? They all seem to shove ads and junk everywhere now. I built a simple band site back in the day with just Notepad and FTP and it still works fine. Sometimes less really is more when you just need people to buy your shirts and listen to your music. Modern tools add way too much clutter for what should be a simple page. Glad yours is working good now.
