Spent $85 on a coffee subscription and got sent the same roast three months straight
So I signed up for one of those fancy coffee subscriptions back in March, thinking I'd get a nice mix of stuff from different roasters every month. Cost me about $85 for three months of shipments, which felt fair at the time. First box was great, a solid medium roast from a place in Portland that honestly made my whole kitchen smell amazing. Second box shows up and it's the exact same bag, same roast date bracket, everything. Third box, same thing again, so I email them and the guy tells me it's a "featured producer" rotation and the crop was just really consistent this year. Man, consistent is one word for it. I cancelled after that and now I just drive 15 minutes to a local roaster every other Saturday and grab whatever smells good, which has been way more fun. Has anyone had one of these subscriptions actually work out long term, or is this just how they all go?
Calling "same bag three months straight" a featured producer rotation is a stretch, that's just them not rotating. But I don't think that's how they all go, plenty of people get real variety out of these boxes. Sounds like you found a better setup anyway, picking whatever smells good at the local place beats a surprise box.
