Why does nobody talk about preheating the mug? 18 years of cold coffee

I used to pour my coffee into a room temp mug and then immediately add cream, thinking that was normal. Last Tuesday my buddy Mike handed me a steaming hot glass from his countertop warmer and said 'try this first'. The difference was UNREAL, the first sip actually tasted like the beans instead of lukewarm watered down stuff. Now I nuke my mug for 30 seconds before brewing and I swear I drink slower because it stays hot the whole way through. Anyone else made this basic switch or am I late to a party that everyone knew about?

I read some barista forum post last year where they swore the mug temp matters as much as the water temp, and honestly I thought they were being dramatic. But after trying your microwave trick this morning, my coffee stayed hot for a full 20 minutes instead of the usual 5. It's such a small step but it makes a huge difference, I can't believe I wasted years drinking lukewarm sludge.
