I finally noticed people taking laptop chargers to the bathroom at cafes...

I was at this shop in Austin last Tuesday, coding away, when I saw a guy unplug his charger from the wall and carry it into the restroom. It hit me that he must think someone would steal his laptop while he was gone. But honestly, if you're that worried, why not just pack up your bag for 2 minutes? It's kind of rude to the next person who might need that outlet. Has anyone else seen this weird habit or am I the only one bugged by it?

So you think the real issue is that people don't feel safe enough to just put their laptop in their bag for a second? What would it take to get back to that easy trust we used to have?

Has it become that common to just leave your stuff unattended like that? I feel like this whole thing is part of a bigger shift where everyone is now always on high alert for theft, even in places where it used to feel pretty safe. Like, people are so scared of losing their laptop that they forget basic manners, like leaving the outlet for someone else. It reminds me of how folks now hover over their tables at coffee shops and never fully relax, just constantly watching their bags. I bet this insecurity is why you see so many people camped out at one spot for hours with all their gear, treating public space like a personal office. Do you think cafes are just becoming stressful zones because nobody trusts each other anymore?
