The barista on 4th Street told me my laptop battery was the reason I kept losing my spot
I used to camp out at this spot on 4th Street back in 2019 and there was an older guy named Ray who ran the espresso machine. One slow Tuesday he watched me lose a whole morning of work when my laptop died mid push, and he said plain as anything, "you keep sitting next to the window and that sun is cooking your battery." I moved two tables back the next day and got almost 90 extra minutes out of a charge, which back then felt like winning the lottery. I still pick the outlet seat over the sunny one every time, and I think about Ray more than I should for a guy whose name I only knew from a cup. Anybody else got weird battery habits they picked up from a random cafe stranger?
Man, this hit me. My buddy Dave had almost the same thing happen at a laundromat cafe of all places. He always grabbed the table right under this big row of lights because it felt cozy, and some woman doing her wash told him those bulbs were slow cooking his phone while it charged. He laughed at her, but then he started charging in the corner by the dryers and his phone stopped dying by noon. He still brings it up like she handed him a secret map. It's funny how a random stranger's throwaway line sticks with you for years.
