My buddy at the shop changed how I see variant covers

I was over at Graham Crackers Comics on Belmont last Saturday and this guy named Mike kept grabbing every foil variant. I always thought those were just cash grabs for collectors. But he said 'I buy them because they remind me of the exact week I got into comics in 1992' and that honestly hit different. Now I'm wondering if I've been too quick to judge people who go all-in on variants... has anyone else changed their mind after talking to another fan?

Oh man, I still have a drawer full of glow-in-the-dark variants I bought during my 'edgy phase'.

Ended up throwing mine at the wall during a power outage and it still glows in there somewhere.
