A label maker saved me 20 minutes on a job in Fresno last week
Last week I did a full rack cleanup at a small dental office in Fresno and I finally started labeling both ends of every cable with a cheap $15 label maker instead of masking tape. I used to skip it on short runs, and sure enough the next tech would call me confused about which cable went where. This time I printed the tags while I was pulling the runs, so it added maybe 10 minutes on the front end, but the client called two days later about a flaky switch port and I found it in under a minute. The tape used to peel off in hot closets within a couple months, but these plastic labels have held up fine so far in their server room at 85 degrees. I know it sounds basic, but doing it as I go instead of after the fact made a big difference. Any of you have a label or tagging system that survives heat and dust better than mine?
