Appreciation post: the dusty back room at a client's office in Naperville had a 12 year old PC still running their whole billing system
Went out on a routine ticket last week and the lady at the front desk waved me toward a closet she called "the server room." Inside was one beige tower from 2012, caked in so much dust it looked like a stuffed animal, running their entire billing setup off a hard drive that probably deserved a medal. I dusted it out, cloned the drive, and she asked if I could leave the old one running too "just in case" and I honestly could not argue with her. What's the oldest machine you've kept alive for a client, and how long did you let the original drive ride before you swapped it?
