Overheard a customer say 'it's just a pc, how hard can it be' and it bugged me all day
Had a guy drop off a gaming rig yesterday that wouldn't boot. He said that line as I was checking it in. I didn't say anything, just wrote down 'no POST, beeps on startup'. Turns out he had a bent pin on his cpu socket from a cooler change. Took me about 20 minutes with a magnifying glass and a toothpick to straighten it out. Charged him my bench fee of $65. He looked at the bill and said 'for that?' I just shrugged. Has anyone else had customers act like what we do is just hitting a button?

That attitude usually comes from people who think computers are like toasters.

Ever notice how people think any job they haven't done themselves is just pushing buttons? I see it all the time with mechanics too, or electricians. Someone's car won't start and they act like it should be a five minute fix. It's like people forgot that knowing what button to push is the actual skill. Your time and that magnifying glass work is what they're paying for, not the five seconds it took to boot it up after.

Wait, "like a toaster"? People actually think computers are that simple? That's wild to me. You can't just pop a computer in like bread and expect it to work.
