A guy running the retro booth at a Denver flea market flipped my view on console arguments
I was at a flea market in Denver two weeks ago and got to talking with this older guy running a booth full of old cartridges and controllers. I made some dumb joke about one console beating another and he just shrugged and said the best games he ever played were the ones his friends could actually sit next to him and play. That got me thinking about how much of the console stuff online is just people shouting past each other over specs nobody can even see, while the actual fun comes from what you play and who you play it with. He had a beat up game console from 1994 hooked up to a little TV and a line of kids waiting to try it, and every one of them was having a blast. Meanwhile I've got a shelf of new stuff at home I barely touched because nobody wants to come over and play it with me. So I'm done picking sides over boxes, I just want games that get people in the same room. What's the last couch game that actually got your friends to show up?
