PSA: Cross-play party chat turned a 4-hour raid into a 20-minute mess
Last Saturday my group tried running a Destiny 2 raid with two PS5 players and two Xbox Series X players. We used the in-game voice chat instead of a dedicated app because someone said it was fine now. It cut out every 3 or 4 minutes, and we spent most of the time re-explaining callouts. We finally switched to a free Discord server on our phones and cleared the boss on the next try. Lesson learned: cross-play games still have rough party chat on console. Has anyone else had better luck with the built-in chat on a specific game like Fortnite or Warzone?
The in-game chat cutting out every few minutes sounds about right, I've seen the same thing happen in Warzone when we tried to use it with a mixed lobby. The callouts getting lost is the real killer, it turns a smooth run into people yelling over each other trying to figure out who saw what. Fortnite's built-in chat is a bit more stable in my experience, but it still has those random dropouts when the lobby gets big or someone's connection hiccups. Honestly, the phone Discord trick is the move until the consoles figure out how to make cross-play voice actually work like a dedicated party system.
