Hot take: a crane operator in Houston told me to stop greasing my excavator pins every day
Honestly I thought he was messing with me, but he explained that over-greasing just pushes dirt past the seals and wears the bushings out faster. He said every 50 hours on the boom pins is plenty unless I'm in mud, and my 320 has been quieter ever since I cut back. Anybody else running a different grease schedule on their pins?
Read a thread on a heavy equip forum a while back where a guy ran a fleet of 320s and he greased boom pins at 50 hours too, said the daily thing was a habit from older machines that had different seal designs. He mentioned the dirt getting past the seals was the real killer, especially in dry dusty ground, since the grease just holds onto the grit. Been doing 50 hours on my pins ever since unless I'm working in slop, then I'll hit them more often.
