Guy at the supply yard in Tulsa told me to leave my trailer ramp down, and now I get it
I hauled a skid steer on a 14 foot trailer for almost three years with the ramp folded up every time. Figured it was safer that way, less chance of it catching on something. Then last week I'm loading up at a yard in Tulsa and an old guy in a red cap watching me says, you're loading dead weight on your tongue doing it like that. He said the folded ramp shifts the balance so the trailer squats and the truck takes too much pin weight. I nodded and forgot about it. Next morning I'm driving 45 minutes to a job and my rear tires are squishing into the wheel wells on every bump. So I tried his way on the way home, ramp down, and the truck sat level the whole drive. Felt weird at first seeing it bounce back there but the ride was way better. Now I'm second guessing every load I tied down before. Does anyone else run their ramp down on purpose or am I late to this?
