Honestly, I read that on a union forum last night and it explained why my first tape job in Phoenix looked like a melted marshmallow, has anyone else bombed a room before learning the clock trick?

Hand framing nailer vs. the old hammer, I know my mistake now

Took a job last month in Medford and tried to save time with a cheap framing nailer. The thing jammed on the second nail and I spent forty minutes fighting it while my client watched from the window. Swapped back to my 20 ounce Estwing and got the whole wall up before lunch. Has anyone else had a tool that just never clicks with the job?

Took me 3 days to find a wire nut that was hidden inside a wall cavity

I was finishing a rough-in for a buddy's basement outside Columbus and the light switch just wouldnt work no matter what. After 4 hours of testing I finally cut a bigger hole in the drywall and spotted the little orange wire nut sitting in the stud bay. It had fallen off the splice when I pushed the box in and rolled right down into the gap. Has anyone else lost a connection inside a wall like that, or am I the only one dumb enough to not tape the joints first?

Went back to my old jobsite after 8 years, the way they frame doors now threw me off

Switched to digital estimating software and my bids got way more accurate

I spent 20 years doing all my bids on a clipboard with a pencil and graph paper. Finally broke down last March and bought a license for PlanSwift after my buddy in Atlanta kept raving about it. First job I ran through it I found I was undercounting siding by about 12% on every job for the last decade. Has anyone else found a huge difference switching from paper to digital takeoffs?

Lost $200 on a cheap tile saw that couldn't cut straight

Picked up a $80 tile saw from a big box store last spring thinking I was saving money. First real job cutting 12x24 porcelain tiles for a bathroom floor, and every cut came out wavy.
