Owner blamed my crew for a crack that was there before we started

Last week in Tacoma, a homeowner pointed at a hairline crack in their new drywall patch and claimed we caused it. I pulled up the timestamped photo from our initial walkthrough, zoomed in on the same crack, and showed it to them without saying a word. Has anyone else had to start doing forensic documentation on every single job just to cover your own ass?
