Overheard a client talking about a 'keratin' treatment she got at a mall kiosk
I was at the coffee shop yesterday and a woman was telling her friend about a cheap smoothing treatment she got from a pop-up booth. She said it cost $60 and her hair felt fried after one wash. It made me think about how these unlicensed spots are popping up everywhere, using harsh formulas with no consultation. I looked it up, and in my state, you need 1,500 hours of school just to get licensed for chemical services. These places skip all the safety steps and skin tests. Has anyone else had clients come in with damage from a similar quick-fix spot?

But is a license really a magic shield against bad results? Plenty of licensed stylists can still mess up hair with the wrong formula. Maybe the real problem is just chasing a cheap price for a complex service.

Right? A license just means they passed a test, not that they're good at their job. I paid top dollar at a fancy salon and still walked out with orange streaks last year. Sometimes you're just rolling the dice no matter who does it.
