Can we talk about the jam jar my neighbor brought over on a rainy Tuesday?
She knocked around 4pm with a jar of her mom's blackberry jam and a scrap of old lace tied around the lid, and it made my whole kitchen feel like a different place for a week. Now I save every bit of ribbon and twine from gifts in a shoebox for stuff like that. What little thing have you started keeping just in case?
That "scrap of old lace tied around the lid" detail is so good, and I hate that I get it. My junk drawer has a whole sandwich bag of those little twist ties from bread, plus every rubber band that ever came near my house. Someday I'll need one, right? My partner calls it my retirement fund of trash. Real question is why I keep the empty jars too, like I'm running a very sad glass museum.
