Spent 2 years scrubbing my cast iron with soap until my grandma in Asheville saw me do it
She grabbed the pan out of my hands and said soap was the old rule from when lye was in everything, so now I just wipe it with salt and a rag. Anyone else's family have an outdated rule that stuck around way too long?
