Heard a kid say it's 'lame' to share a controller, is couch co-op dying?

My neighbor's 12 year old was bragging to his friend last weekend that his whole class thinks split screen is 'for babies' and everyone just plays online now. That got me thinking about my own kids who'd rather both be on phones than pass the controller in our living room. Is this a real trend with the younger crowd, or are we just getting old and out of touch?

Couch co-op is definitely not dead, but that kid is missing the point. Sharing a controller is half the fun because you're in the same room, yelling at each other. Online play is fine for competitive stuff, but games like Overcooked or Mario Kart are way better when you can see the other person's face when they screw up. Your kids might come around to it once they realize playing online with strangers isn't the same as trash talking their sibling in person.
