My controller died mid-boss fight last night

We were playing Streets of Rage 4 on the Switch and right as we got to the final phase of the final boss, my joycon just stopped working. I had to yell at my friend to dodge while I fumbled to swap batteries in the dark, and somehow we still won by a hair.

Wait wait wait, "fumble to swap batteries in the dark" got me lol. That is such a nightmare scenario, honestly. I've totally been there with dead controllers at the worst possible moment. But the fact that you guys still pulled off the win is legendary, I'd be riding that high for a week. Dude, is it just me or is fumbling for batteries in complete darkness like a rite of passage for anyone who games with friends?
