I finally started checking the wind sock at the Port of Oakland yard before every pick
Last Tuesday at the Port of Oakland yard I watched a guy boom up with a big steel plate and the wind caught it around 40 feet, swung it way wider than he planned. An old hand named Reggie walked over and pointed at the little orange sock on the fence, said he checks it before every single pick now. I started doing the same thing and the load barely moves on my end, way less pucker factor up there. How do you all judge wind before a lift, just the sock or do you carry your own meter?
