Ran my tagline through the block for 2 years until a rigger in Tulsa asked why
I used to keep my tagline wrapped tight around my hard hat during every pick. No reason, just how the older guy on my first crew did it and I copied him. Last month a rigger out of Tulsa watched me climb down and asked who taught me that. He said a tight tagline gives you zero room to feel a swing start, since you can't let it slip through your hands. He showed me to keep 4 or 5 feet of slack looped near my waist so I can pay it out fast if the load starts drifting. Now I can feel a sway about a half second earlier, and that half second is everything on a blind pick over a wall. Curious how you all run yours, do you hold slack or keep it tight?
