Sling angles: I trusted the chart for 9 years until a spotter in Houston showed me the math
Honestly, I always used the standard 60 degree sling angle chart and never questioned it. Last month a spotter on a job in Houston pointed out my two-leg bridle was actually at 45 degrees because of how I hooked the shackles. He sketched the load triangle on a napkin and it hit me that I'd been overloading the legs by about 20% the whole time. The chart says 45 degrees is fine for lighter lifts, but I never measured, just eyeballed it. Now I carry a protractor and a string. Two questions: anyone else ever discover they were misreading a chart for years? And do you trust the tables or do your own load calculations on site?
