Snapped a main hoist cable in Pittsburgh, check your drum wraps

Had a 40-ton liebherr drop its load last Tuesday when the cable snapped at layer 3, no warning signs on inspection the day before. Check for any crossed wraps on the drum before your next lift, has anyone else seen this happen without a wear indicator going off first?

Wow, that's terrifying. Was the load suspended when it let go, or were you in the process of lifting? I'm really curious if the cable had any visible flattening or birdcaging at those lower layers, since the top wrap can hide a lot of damage underneath. Did the load cell or any load moment indicator show anything odd in the seconds before the snap?

Usually passes inspection right before it snaps mid-lift, @barbarahill.
