Talking with a retired operator at the diner made me rethink my rigging checks
Sat next to an old guy named Frank at a truck stop diner outside Harrisburg last Tuesday. He ran a 4100 for 30 years. Said he always walks the full radius twice before every pick, even if he just did it 10 minutes ago. I asked why bother, and he said "the ground doesn't wait for you to be ready." That stuck with me. I've been guilty of rushing a second check when the foreman is pushing. Since then I've added that extra loop on every lift, about 14 jobs now. It's added maybe 4 minutes per pick. Has anyone else picked up a habit from a veteran that felt slow at first but ended up saving your ass?
