Bought a $120 writing course on character voice. It was all fluff.

That's rough, but most writing courses are like that. The thing about character voice is you can learn way more from just reading Cormac McCarthy or even YA books than from a course that charges $120 for buzzwords. Voice is specific word choices and rhythms, not some secret formula. Did the course give you actual examples of how to build a character's vocabulary or sentence length?

Haha, yeah @blairwhite hit the nail on the head. A $120 course that just hands you buzzwords is like buying a fancy toaster that only burns bread. I'd rather just read a book like "The Road" where McCarthy's using like 20 words total but each one hits different. Or even a YA book where the narrator's using "literally" every other sentence. That's actual voice, not some made-up formula.
