My friend's wedding toast fail sparked a big argument in my writing circle.
I think such real-life flubs make great writing prompts, but my group says it's tacky to mine personal awkwardness for stories.

Wait, you haven't seen the pictures? Some of them have those giant, shiny lawn statues right next to the house. Like a full size fake deer with glitter on it. That's the part that gets me.
