My sister asked me 'why does your main character always fix everything?' and it stopped me cold

She read my short story draft last weekend and pointed out that my protagonist solves every problem alone. I realized I've been writing heroes who never ask for help because that's how I was raised to handle stuff. It hit different because she was basically calling me out on my own stubbornness showing up on the page. Has anyone else had a family member point out a pattern in your writing that you never noticed before?

Your main character always fixes everything" lol yeah thanks sis for pointing out I basically wrote my own stubborn self on the page. I remember my mom once read a story where my hero kept refusing help from everyone and said "you know this isn't normal right?" It was like looking in a mirror except the mirror was judging my life choices. Now I write scenes where the protagonist actually calls someone and it feels weird but in a good way.

@julia92 started something real here. Let your characters be messy and ask for help. It's freeing.
